Fact Sheet: Local Area Enrolment
Brisbane State High School has a strong commitment to students from the local area. To ensure that students who enrol under this category are genuine local residents, we need to see a number of original documents. In summary, to be eligible under this category the applicant's parents' Principal Place of Residence must be in the Defined Local Catchment Area (i.e., one cannot become eligible by boarding with other family members, friends, etc).
Defined Local Catchment Area (1.25MB)
Original documents required for all applicants to BSHS
For all applicants, we need to see original documents (certified copies will not be accepted) which prove that the child is entitled to attend a State school without paying full fees (as would be the case for fee-paying overseas students). We therefore need to see at least one of the following:
- Child's Australian birth certificate. (It is a Commonwealth Government proviso that for Australian births prior to 20 August 1986, the child's Birth Certificate is sufficient. For births after that date, the child's certificate must be accompanied by evidence that, at the time of the birth, at least one of the parents was an Australian citizen.) OR
- Australian or New Zealand passport (of student NOT parent) OR
- Australian citizenship certificate (of student or parent) OR
- Appropriate visa
Other Original documents required:
1. School reports
Child's original school reports for previous two semesters. These do not form part of the selection process for the Local Catchment Area applicants, but may be used by our teachers in assisting students.
2. Parents' Principal Place of Residence must be in the Local Catchment Area. We need to see the following original documents
A: Home Owner
- Contract of Sale (stamped)
- Current Brisbane City Council rates notice
- Current Energex account for supply of domestic electricity
B: Lease Holders
- Lease extending to at least six months from the child's expected starting date at Brisbane State High School, including names of all residents at the property
- Rental Bond lodgement receipt
- Current Energex account for supply of domestic electricity
It may be that at the time application is made, the lease does not extend to six (6) months after the student's expected commencement of attendance/study at Brisbane State High School. In this case, the application may be made in the usual way, with all applicable closing dates, but will not be able to be finalised until a lease of appropriate length (or longer) is sighted by the school.
For all Local applicants, we need:
Completed (witnessed, signed and stamped by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner for Declarations) Statutory Declaration (included in application package).
To ensure prompt processing of the application, all relevant original documents should be included with the application form. Applications that are incomplete will not be processed.
